Chef Alan Ramirez
I was born and raised in San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora, Mexico. I attended Universidad Del Valle de Mexico in Puebla Mexico to study International Culinary Business Administration. My Career started in the year 2010 while working at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn located in Scottsdale Arizona. In 2012 I moved to St. Simons Island Georgia to work with Sea Island Resort.
At the age of 22 years old, I began to face health issues from unhealthy eating habits and overly processed foods. I realized that there were no options for healthy dining on St. Simons Island, that could cater to my dietary restrictions and allergies. I saw something that our community desperately needed. I wanted to promote healthy eating to the local population and make it easier for them to obtain fresh locally sourced ingredients. This entire project allowed me to put my hard work and dedication into something that could benefit the community. That's when the idea of a healthy restaurant came to mind. I worked many years on this project, but I felt as if it wasn’t the right time, so I put it on hold.
While working for the Sea Island Resort, I was offered the opportunity to work for the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort as a Sous Chef for one of the restaurants. I worked at the Fairmont for a few years, but I was still thinking about my project that I left on hold. So, I decided to take a break from the resorts and hotels, to seek more experience and knowledge in the food & hospitality industry. This led to me working for a concept development company for restaurants & bars for a few years, it was here that I acquired the knowledge that I was in search of. Eventually after receiving their trust, they honorably promoted me to Executive Chef. This new position required me to oversee the operation of four different Restaurant Concepts and two bars at the same time.
After a few years my family and I decided it was time to start thinking about our future. After much consideration we decided to leave the big city and move back to St. Simons Island. This small town which my wife and I loved so dearly would be the perfect place to raise our children. I knew it was time to open my own restaurant.
In the fall of 2018, we began looking at locations to lease. That’s when I met Mayte Cruz, Chef & Owner of Chile Peppers Island Cantina. She was introduced to me by a friend, we instantly had a connection. We discussed the need of a healthy restaurant on St. Simons Island, we both had a similar vision of what we wanted this restaurant to become. We decided to act, it turned out that she had a small place located in Retreat Plaza. When I first walked through the door, I had this indescribable feeling. I knew that it was now or never. We immediately started working on what has now become Sea Salt Healthy Kitchen on St Simons Island.
